Continuing boom in Indian economy is spiraling to higher domestic as well as foreign trade in the country’s fresh as well as processed food. While Indian food industry has to ensure compliance of food safety and quality regulations, all the imported food must also clear the relevant regulations of the country. There is a need for a powerful platform to not only create mass awareness but also to catalyze contemporary issues for the benefit of consumers. Besides, the platform should link processing industry, academia, policy makers, and regulations for a holistic approach on the food safety and quality issues. I hope that your magazine ‘Food Processing and Safety Update’ would serve the stakeholders’ need for authentic information on all aspects of food safety and
quality. I wish the magazine a great success.

Food being the basic necessity for every human being, its quality/ particularly the safety aspect, is of paramount importance and a matter of intense debate in all countries. Food processing adds value to the agricultural or horticultural produce by using various technologies. A strong and dynamic food processing sector plays a significant role in the overall economic set up of a country. It provides vital linkages and synergies between industry and agriculture. It has been identified as a sector having immediate potential for growth and employment leading to diversification of agricultural activities, improving value addition opportunities and creating surplus agro-food products for export.
India being primarily an agrarian country, productivity of agricultural commodities has been emphasized to a greater extent. Our ever growing food processing industries need updating in key areas viz, food processing trends, production, ingredients and formulations, technology transfer, food engineering, plant maintenance, dietary supplements, quality, safety and regulatory issues and updates. While World is envisioning India as one of the fastest growing food sector, considering requirement of the Indian food processing sector, ASSOCOM_JNDIA's venture of launching of their new magazine, 'Food Processing and safety update' is very timely and deserves appreciation.
I believe this magazine will surely act as a resource for the food processing industries as well as R&D sector.
